Tea with Ms. Tina Knowles Lawson: Black Women in Arts Leadership

Exclusive broadcast of the “Tea with Ms. Tina,” a fireside chat with Ms. Tina Knowles Lawson, which Newark Symphony Hall (NSH) hosted last fall. It will air on NWK-TV, as well as, stream on NSH’s Facebook and YouTube pages. Lawson, famed designer, philanthropist and co-founder of WACO Theater Center, talks with Mikki Taylor, Essence magazine’s editor-at-large, Newark-native and author, about the challenges and opportunities for Black women in the arts. Filmed at NSH’s expansive, legendary Terrace Ballroom in September 2021, the invite-only, hour-long event with 100 attendees, offers an intimate discussion about the importance of Black art, Black culture, her newest projects, and more.

The Voices of Newark Symphony Hall introduces and showcases the outstanding talented vocalists handpicked by a panel of notable judges to appear in The Soul of Newark Symphony Hall. They are: Malcolm Minor, Mercedes Alexus, TreZure Empire, Rhenotha Whitaker, Valerie Adams and Brian Fenderson.

James Brown Visits Prince George’s Community College for Intimate Conversation with Mass Communications Students

The Center for Performing Arts at Prince George’s Community College (PGCC) welcomed acclaimed CBS broadcaster and distinguished faith leader James “JB” Brown to campus last month, as part of its Mass Communications Speaker Series hosted by Emmy Award-winning Professor of Communications Lou Holder. Participating students had an opportunity to interview Brown alongside their professor and discuss a variety of topics, including journalism, sports, faith, and purpose.
